” “Truly I tell you,” He said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. “ Matthew 18:3 (NIV)
As of now, almost every child has had their last day of school for the school year in the United States. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking my daughter to her last day in first grade. I normally do not get the chance to drop her off because of my work schedule, so I took this day off to do so. As we were getting closer to the school, my daughter was observing a piece of paper blowing in the wind. She told me, “Look, dad, that piece of paper is moving like a human. It looks like it’s crossing the street and stopping when cars are coming.” Being the logical thinking adult in the car I immediately say the wind is blowing at the right time, that’s why the paper is behaving like how we would when we cross the street. Then I had seconds to reflect on what she and I just said and realized her observation and my explanation describes how Holy Spirit moves us.
“ The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. “ – John 3:8 (KJV)
Using the moment I tried to explain to my youngest how Holy Spirit works with us. We are the paper and the wind is Holy Spirit. When we lay down our lives, like paper, the wind comes and it carries us where it wants us to be. I told her it was interesting how she noticed the paper was acting like a human, safely crossing the street. In this case, the wind was moving the paper the whole time.
“ They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. “ – Revelation 12:11 (NIV)
As believers when we allow (because it is a choice) Holy Spirit to guide us it is very apparent through people’s observations and our testimony. Just like the observation my precious daughter made, people around us make the same observations about how we live our lives. To triumph over the adversary’s schemes, we must depend on our Helper.
“ I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet bear to hear it. However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come. He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you ” – John 16:12-14 (Berean Study Bible)
People are changing every day whether we acknowledge it or not. It is inevitable, as humans, living creatures on this earth we will change slowly or quickly. This happens mentally, physically, and relationally. These three aspects of our lives have a push and pull effect on how we move about in the world. When we allow Holy Spirit to cultivate changes in those areas for the good of the Kingdom it prepares us to receive more truth from our Father in Heaven! Let us continue to humble ourselves and seek our Father’s face with increased faith in His plan for us in this world. Let us trust in His promises and His ways! In Jesus’ name Amen!
“ He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. “ – Psalm 29:5 (NIV)
