HOSTING A PICNIC
Communion Houston will only be successful if churches, ministries, and small groups step forward to take ownership of picnic gatherings on the lawn where ministry will happen. Every picnic blanket represents more than a meal—it is an opportunity to welcome strangers, share the Gospel, pray with people, build relationships, and demonstrate the love of Christ in a tangible way. We believe many of the most meaningful encounters of the day will happen not from a stage, but at these picnic gatherings on the lawn.
Each picnic group is invited to provide the volunteers, food, and ministry presence needed to serve their guests during the event. Picnic hosts are encouraged to intentionally invite the lost to the table. This could be a prodigal, a co-worker, a neighbor, or even one of the homeless at City Hall.
Our goal is for every picnic gathering to become a place of hospitality, discipleship, prayer, and Gospel conversation.
We encourage you not to wait, but to begin assembling your picnic team, gathering supplies, and claiming your place in what God will do through Communion Houston.
picnic host responsibilities
Space on the lawn for your picnic gathering is FREE but on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each picnic host should provide:
- Picnic blanket and decorations
- LED lamps
- Food and beverages for your picnic guests and team
- Coolers and ice (if needed)
- Plates, cups, napkins, and plasticware
- Serving utensils and food service supplies
- Hand sanitizer and basic hygiene supplies
- Communion elements
- One picnic host leader
- Setup and teardown team members
- Prayer and evangelism team members
items not allowed
These items will not be allowed on the lawn area:
- Tables
- Tents
- Torches, candles, or food warmers/burners
- Grilling / cooking equipment
- Any type of fixture that will pierce the ground (pegs, beach umbrellas, etc.)
